Inhalation Applications

One of the most important things to consider as we use our oils is our intention.  Our thoughts whether negative or good thoughts can alter the effectiveness of the oil.

According to David Stewart, author of The Chemistry of Essential Oils Made Simple, …”essential oils were measured before and after being bombarded with negative thoughts.  Their frequencies went down by 12 MHz.  When positive thoughts were aimed at the oils, their frequencies went up by 10 MHz.  When the oils were prayed over, their resonant frequencies went up by 15 MHz.  Oils amplify intent.  And intent will move molecules of oil to where they can best serve as needed.  That is why prayer and anointing with essential oils work so well when combined together.”

So as you apply, affirm to yourself:

Every day, In every way, I am getting better and better.

I release the past and honor my present life.

I am healthy, happy and joyous.

I open my heart to receiving love.

An endless supply of love energy flows around me at all times.

Not only is intention important, but how you apply your oils to your body.  Using your dominant hand, drop the oils into your non-dominant hand, using circles before applying to area.


Direct inhalation – add 1 to 2 drops to palm of non dominant hand and rub clockwise three times and inhale deeply .   You can add 1 to drops to a tissue and hold near nose and inhale deeply.

Gary Young, Young Living Founder says when you want to DE-PROGRAM faulty DNA, use counter-clockwise circles, and then always follow up with clockwise circles that RE-PROGRAM the DNA correctly.

Nasal inhalers.  Essential oils are dropped on to the wick and then the wick is inserted into the inhaler after which the base is secured to the bottom.  The individual inhales the essential oils through the hole on the top of the inhaler.  Usually 15-20 drops of blended essential oil are put in the inhaler.

Vaporizers – add 5 -10 drops of essential oil to either a warm or cool water vaporizer.  (Make sure your vaporizer allows this)

Diffusers - There are many different types of diffusers .  Purchase a cold air diffuser and follow the instructions using essential oils to be used in the electric diffuser.

Steam inhalation – add 5-10 drops of essential oil(s) to a bowl of steaming water and then place a towel over your head and the bowl and inhale deeply for several minutes.  Use caution with oils and eyes should be kept shut to avoid the vapors irritating the.

Safety Cautions on inhalation:  it is difficult to estimate the amount of essential oil being inhaled as it can depend on many factors such as proportions of constituents entering the nose, duration of inhalation and method of inhalation.

Note:  According to Tisserand (2013) it is unlikely that sufficient essential oil vapor will be inhaled under normal circumstances to represent a toxic hazard.  Toxicity is more likely to occur from the accidental inhalation of oils i.e. large spill or working with essential oils for a long period of time in a closed environment.
